W5500 Ethernet module - SPI, TCP/IP in hardware, 3.3 V
Description
Product Overview
- Ethernet module with W5500 chip and complete TCP/IP protocol stack in hardware
- SPI interface up to 80 MHz, 32 KB transmit/receive buffer
- RJ45 connector with integrated transformer, no additional network circuitry required
- Operating voltage 3.3 V
- Compatible with existing Ethernet plug-in module circuits
Product Description
The module connects a microcontroller wirelessly to an Ethernet network via the SPI interface. The W5500 chip implements the complete TCP/IP protocol stack directly in hardware, so connection establishment, data acknowledgment, and packet retransmission are handled automatically without the microcontroller having to deal with them.
The chip independently handles all network and transport layer tasks. The microcontroller only sends and receives the actual application data via the SPI lines. Since the transformer is already installed on the module, no additional circuitry is required between the chip and the Ethernet jack.
Applications include IoT devices, smart home systems, data loggers, and embedded web servers where sensors or switches report their values over the local network or the Internet. The module is mechanically and electrically compatible with circuits designed for comparable Ethernet modules.
A microcontroller with an SPI interface and the appropriate Ethernet library for the development environment are required. A 3.3 V power supply must be ensured.
Safety Information
The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not suitable for installation in the household electrical circuit. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
