Product Description
This solar cell converts sunlight directly into electrical energy. With a rated power of 4.5 W at an output voltage of 6 V, it is suitable for small applications that do not require a battery storage system or controller, or as a charging source for 6-V batteries and rechargeable battery packs. Its monocrystalline structure achieves a conversion efficiency of approximately 17 percent, which is typical for this power class.
The solar cell only generates its full output under direct sunlight and when fully aligned with the sun. In diffuse light or shade, the current output decreases noticeably. The output voltage remains relatively constant regardless of the load, while the current changes with the intensity of the sunlight.
Applications include small solar fans, pond pumps in garden ponds, auxiliary power for electric fences, or measuring stations in areas without access to the power grid. It can also provide self-sufficient power for battery-backed data loggers or continuous charging of nickel-metal hydride batteries. For a system that reliably supplies power even in cloudy conditions, a lithium or lead-gel battery is required as a buffer; the solar cell is then connected via a PWM or MPPT charge controller.
The solar cell is supplied without a mounting frame and without a charge controller. Permanent installation requires weather-resistant mounting, and the connections at the edge should be protected against moisture. No controller is integrated; the cell outputs its voltage directly. To use the full output, align the cell with the sun every day or combine it with a tracking system.
Safety Information
The solar cell is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. It is not suitable for installation in a household electrical circuit or for use as a backup power source connected to the power grid. All work on systems with energy storage devices (rechargeable batteries, batteries) must be carried out by qualified electricians.
