Product description
A monocrystalline solar cell with a rated power of 3 W generates direct current for small 12 V systems. With dimensions of 145 * 145 mm, it fits into test setups, model projects, and portable charging applications. The open conductor-frame design allows installation in custom-built housings or on flat surfaces.
The cell operates under standard test conditions (irradiance 1000 W/m², cell temperature 25 °C). Typically, it provides an open-circuit voltage of approximately 21 V in full sunlight; under load, the voltage drops and the current adjusts to the load. Therefore, charge controllers or similar regulation circuits must be connected between the cell and a battery or onboard power system.
Applications include portable solar chargers for small batteries, powering weather stations or monitoring sensors in hard-to-reach locations, as well as educational and experimental solar energy projects. Under ideal lighting conditions, a single 3 W cell is sufficient to slowly charge small batteries or power LED systems drawing a few milliamperes.
For practical operation, a charge controller, a battery for energy storage, and connection cables are required in addition to the solar cell. The output depends heavily on the angle of incidence of the light and sky brightness; under cloudy skies, the output drops significantly below the rated value. The cell tolerates long periods without polarization and requires no maintenance.
