Product description
A charger with a Micro-USB connection controls the safe charging of 18650 lithium batteries. The module regulates the charging current to 1 A and operates with an input voltage of 5 V, supplied via a USB source or USB power adapter.
The TP4056 chip continuously monitors the charging current and cell voltage. When the battery is fully charged, the charger switches to a constant charging state. Deeply discharged cells are detected and precharged at a reduced current, while short circuits immediately interrupt charging. This eliminates the need for an external protection circuit in simple setups.
The module is used wherever 18650 cells are charged regularly, including portable measuring devices, LED headlamps, wireless modules, and hobby robots. It is particularly practical for mobile projects powered by USB power banks or laptop ports, as charging runs fully automatically and the LEDs indicate the progress.
The module is supplied without a battery and without a USB power source. A standard USB power adapter or USB power source with an output capacity of at least 5 V and 1 A is required. The maximum charging time depends on the battery capacity; for cells with 2000 mAh, for example, it is around two hours.
Safety information
Lithium batteries must not be connected to the household power circuit. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Damaged or swollen batteries must not be charged, as there is a risk of fire and explosion. Work on or near the power supply must be carried out by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
