Product description
This charging module safely controls the charging of lithium-ion batteries. The integrated controller accepts input voltages between 4.5 and 5.5 volts and charges a single Li-ion battery with a nominal voltage of 3.7 V to its full charging voltage of 4.2 V. The maximum charging current is 1 ampere, while the actual current is determined by the connected power supply or USB port. The module features a protection circuit that prevents overcurrents and critical voltage levels both during charging and discharging.
Power is supplied via a Micro-USB connector, as commonly used on phone chargers or USB power supplies. The circuit board has solder pads for directly connecting the battery, which is particularly advantageous for compact projects. A separate charger is not required; instead, any power supply with a USB output or a computer USB port can be used.
The module can be used in portable devices such as LED lamps, small robots, or sensor networks where Li-ion batteries provide the power supply. It is also suitable for wearables or IoT prototypes that need to be charged regularly. The 1 A current is suitable for batteries with capacities of up to approximately 2000 mAh; batteries with higher capacities will take correspondingly longer to charge fully.
The battery's positive terminal must be soldered to the pad marked '+' and its negative terminal to the '-' pad. The module can be operated as long as the input voltage remains within the permissible range; voltages below or above this range may cause malfunctions or damage. Apart from a suitable USB power supply and a Li-ion battery, no additional electronics are required for operation.
Safety information
Lithium-ion batteries must not be connected with reversed polarity. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes; it is not suitable for installation in household electrical circuits. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; consult a qualified electrician if you have questions about safe commissioning.
