Product description
The DRV8825 is a stepper motor driver module for NEMA stepper motors with up to 2.2 A phase current. The module is controlled via three digital inputs: one signal for each step, one for the direction of rotation, and one for enabling or disabling the motor. The supply voltage is between 8.2 and 45 V, allowing both battery operation and power supply operation.
The driver generates the required current pulses for the motor from the input signals. Solder bridges on the PCB allow you to select the step resolution, from full-step operation to 1/32 microsteps, providing more precise motion. In the event of overload or insufficient cooling, the driver shuts down to protect the motor. The back of the PCB features a thermal conductor, and a heat sink should be fitted for higher current loads.
These drivers are used in Prusa-like 3D printers, plotters, and CNC machines where precise axis movements are required, as well as in automated projects with multiple axes. A standard 3D printer with three motion axes and two Z motors therefore requires several drivers.
A microcontroller or board system such as an Arduino is required to provide the digital outputs for Step, Direction, and Enable. The supply voltage must come from a separate regulated power source. A heat sink is required for currents above 1.5 A or longer operating periods. The motor itself is not included.
Safety notice
Not intended for installation in household electrical circuits. Intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
