Product description
The module is a control board for RepRap-based 3D printers, built on the Arduino Mega 2560 and connected via pin headers. It coordinates all of a printer's drive functions, from the axis motors to the heating system, and combines the required drivers and outputs in a compact assembly.
The board contains five integrated stepper drivers for the X, Y, and Z axes as well as the two extruder axes. Two MOSFET outputs are available for thermal management, allowing heated beds and nozzle heaters to be switched directly without requiring external relays. At the same time, dedicated thermistor inputs monitor the actual temperatures and immediately provide feedback to the controller board. SD card support enables print files to be loaded without a permanent USB connection, promoting more stable long print jobs.
The module is designed for building custom printers in which all moving axes are driven by stepper motors. It covers common configurations, from simple XY printers to multi-material setups with two independently controlled print heads. Additional driver modules may be required for larger printing machines with more than five axes or printers with high-current heating elements.
The board requires an Arduino Mega 2560 as its base and a separate power supply for the motor outputs, typically 12 or 24 volts. The firmware, usually Marlin or Repetier, is uploaded to the Mega and controls the shield. The printer enclosure, mechanics, and optics must be sourced separately.
