Product Description

The Nextion display is an intelligent touch panel for creating graphical user interfaces. It sends and receives commands over a serial interface, making it possible to control even processors with limited resources. The controller does not need to handle the image rendering itself. The 3.2-inch display can show menus, controls, and indicators without requiring complex programming of the display code.

The device operates at a voltage between 3.3 and 5.5 V, so it connects directly to both 3.3 V and 5 V boards without a level shifter or additional power supply. Communication is serial via UART; several interface acceleration options can be configured as alternatives. The touch panel is resistive, so it can also be operated with a gloved hand or a stylus.

Typical applications include control tasks in laboratory automation, such as adjusting parameters on power supply prototypes or measuring instruments, as well as monitoring displays for machine controllers or sensor networks. Industrial-style interfaces can be created with the included visual editor without having to write code in C; images and fonts can be uploaded in advance.

Development is carried out using the manufacturer's design environment, which is available free of charge. An integrated emulator lets you test the interface before uploading it to the display. The device stores the graphical elements itself, so the connected microcontroller does not need to handle rendering and can focus entirely on the logic.

The display is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Contact with the 3.3 to 5.5 V power supply is not dangerous, but the connections must be correctly polarized.
