Product Description
The SkyWalker 12AE is a brushless ESC for electric aircraft models with low to medium power requirements. It drives brushless motors with up to 12 A continuous current and up to 15 A briefly, and is controlled directly by the receiver via a PWM signal. The BLheli firmware enables adjustments for different motor characteristics without additional hardware.
The ESC works with 2S to 3S LiPo batteries, corresponding to a voltage range of 7.4 to 11.1 V. This voltage limit is important to prevent damage caused by undervoltage. The device automatically detects the battery voltage at startup and scales the motor control accordingly. With a weight of under 10 grams, the ESC fits into lightweight aircraft models with wingspans starting at around 50 centimeters.
Applications include trainer models and smaller aircraft models in the low-budget sector, drones with individual motors weighing under 500 grams in total, and electric aircraft models with moderate flight speeds. A model with a 2-meter wingspan and a total weight of around 800 grams could fly regularly with this ESC for one to two years.
A functional receiver with a PWM output and a brushless motor with a speed of between 1500 and 4000 revolutions per volt are required. If a motor with a higher speed is used, the frequency in the ESC must be reprogrammed. The ESC is connected directly to the LiPo battery; a charge controller or high-voltage protection device is then not required. During longer breaks between flights, the battery should be discharged to approximately 3.7 V per cell after the last flight.
Safety Notice
This ESC is intended only for assembling and testing aircraft models, not for outdoor flight operation without appropriate safety measures. LiPo batteries connected with reversed polarity can immediately destroy the ESC and pose a fire hazard; the polarity must be checked by a person familiar with electrical engineering before initial operation. In the event of malfunctions or an unsafe operating condition, consult a qualified electrician before conducting any further flight tests.
