Product description

A ten-position rotary switch with a 2.54 mm pitch fits directly onto standard perfboards without additional wiring. The switch has two separate circuits per switching position, allowing two different functions to be controlled in parallel or switching patterns to be activated.

The positions are changed mechanically by turning the switch. The metal contacts ensure secure, reliable transitions between the switching stages. Since the switch itself does not require a power supply, no additional power connection is needed; the switching outputs are connected to the inputs of a microcontroller board.

These switches are useful wherever multiple operating modes or calibrations are to be implemented in hardware. For example, a temperature data logger that is intended to offer three different measuring ranges can use one or more positions for each range and switch the sensor sensitivity accordingly. The second independent circuit can likewise be used to switch filter algorithms or data storage parameters at the same time.

To connect the switch, its contacts are connected to the digital inputs of a board using wires or jumper wires. The inputs are then pulled up to a high level using pull-up resistors, while the switch connects the contacts to ground and thus generates a defined low signal. To ensure reliable detection, hardware debounce time of at least 20 ms should be taken into account before registering a position change in the code.

Safety information

The switch is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes, not for use with household electrical circuits. When used in circuits carrying current, it must be verified that the switching voltage and current do not endanger the service life of the contacts. A qualified electrician must be consulted when working on or near electrical installations.
