Product description
The Peltier element uses the Seebeck effect. When direct current is applied, heat is generated on one side and cooling on the other. The function can be reversed depending on the direction of the current. With a power rating of 100 W at 12 V, this module generates temperature differences of up to 67 K, although the practically usable difference is significantly lower depending on the thermal management system.
Effective results require thermal management on both sides: a heatsink with a fan on the hot side, and a radiator or thermal plate on the cold side. Without these additional components, the temperature gradient collapses. The ceramic layers between the copper contacts provide galvanic isolation between the hot and cold circuits.
Applications include thermoelectric coolers for transporting temperature-sensitive goods, small laboratory cooling systems for sensors or components, climate control in electronic enclosures, and miniature thermostat experiments. The principle can also be reversed for power generation when heat is artificially provided on one side and cooling on the other.
The element is designed for continuous operation, but wears out more quickly with frequent changes in current direction. An external power supply of at least 100 W is required, as well as a protection circuit against reverse polarity and overcurrent. The lead wires are generally not heat-insulated, so contact with the contact points or housing can cause burns.
Safety information
During continuous operation, the Peltier element generates extreme temperatures on both sides (up to over 60 °C on the hot side and significantly below 0 °C on the cold side); contact with exposed contact points and lead wires must be avoided. This module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not suitable for installation in the household electrical system. Work on or near the power supply must be carried out by a qualified electrician; if you are unsure about sizing the thermal management system, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
