Product description
This addressable RGB LED in a 5 mm package combines red, green, and blue diodes with a microcontroller in a single housing. The color and brightness can be controlled via a single data input, and multiple LEDs can easily be connected in series: the output of the first LED feeds the next one without requiring separate data lines.
The timing follows the WS2812 standard, making the LED compatible with boards and software that support this protocol. The control electronics process the incoming data signal, apply the corresponding color value, and pass the signal on to the next LED. No calibration is required. A power supply between 4.5 and 5.5 V is sufficient for operation; the LED outputs signals at 5 V levels.
These addressable LEDs are used for animations and visual effects, such as in lighting projects for models or in status displays that show multicolor messages in real time. They are also suitable for educational projects, allowing you to quickly program color feedback or color gradients.
A microcontroller or single-board computer with a digital output at 5 V levels is required, along with a power supply capable of delivering sufficient current. An LED requires approximately 60 mA at full brightness. For longer LED chains or many modules lit simultaneously, an external power source must be appropriately sized. The LED chain only works with correct data signal timing; interference or excessively long cables can cause malfunctions.
