Product description
An optical fingerprint sensor captures fingerprint patterns through light reflection and provides the data via a serial interface. The module stores templates directly and compares new fingerprints with the stored patterns; verification takes well under one second.
The operating voltage between 3.3 V and 5 V makes the module compatible with common microcontroller boards. The serial connection requires only two connection pins for data and clock signals. When connecting to 5 V logic, level shifting is necessary if the board provides only 3.3 V on the interface.
Typical applications include access protection for devices and boxes in which prototypes with various security levels are tested. The storage capacity for up to 162 fingerprints enables multi-user scenarios in smaller projects. Local processing is particularly helpful in embedded systems with limited RAM, as complex comparison operations are already performed in the sensor.
A suitable voltage regulator or a board with the appropriate voltage level is required for operation. Dirty or damp fingertips impair recognition accuracy; the conditions for enrolling new fingerprints should match those during comparison.
Safety information
This module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not suitable for installation in the household power circuit. Biometric security in production systems requires consultation with security technology specialists. If you are unsure about integrating it into existing systems, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
