Product description
An infrared motion detector detects heat radiation from moving objects and signals this via a digital output. The module operates with a 5 V supply voltage and outputs HIGH when motion is detected. The detection range extends up to 7 meters with a detection angle of 120 degrees, making the module suitable for medium-sized rooms.
Two potentiometers can be used to adjust the sensitivity and the follow-up time between 5 and 30 seconds. The follow-up time determines how long the output remains HIGH after the last motion has been detected. A longer setting prevents repeated switching caused by slow or brief movements. This adjustability makes the module flexible for various lighting conditions and detection tasks.
The module can be used for automatic switch detection for lighting or ventilation, access and presence monitoring, and security projects. One example is controlling an LED display that lights up when someone enters a room. Combined with a microcontroller board, delayed actions can also be programmed, such as switching off devices after a longer period of absence.
The connections are designed for breadboards. The three pins connect to the power supply, ground, and the digital signal output of a microcontroller board. Outdoors or in direct sunlight, errors may occur because heat radiation from surfaces affects the sensor's sensitivity.
