Product Description
An optical level sensor operates on the principle of an infrared photoelectric barrier. The module emits invisible light and checks whether it is reflected by an object in the detection range. If the sensor detects light, it signals presence; if the reflection is absent, it reports absence. This makes it possible to determine whether a container is full or not.
The sensor requires a 5 V operating voltage and outputs signals via two separate outputs that can be connected directly to digital inputs on microcontrollers. The rectangular plastic housing with IP67 protection withstands splashing water and is therefore suitable for use in damp environments. No prior calibration is necessary.
Typical applications include container monitoring, such as monitoring levels in storage tanks or storage containers. The sensor can also be used in dosing systems to report when media have run out. In automated systems, the module warns of empty containers or excessive fill levels, thereby preventing operational interruptions.
A functioning system requires a microcontroller or controller board with digital inputs for evaluating the sensor signals. The module is operated with a power supply and connection cables; a separate power supply must be procured if required. The detection range is limited and determined by the optical properties of the medium to be detected.
