Product description
The NEMA17 stepper motor provides precise positioning in applications that require neither sensors nor control loops. The motor rotates in defined steps of 1.8 degrees, making it easy to calculate the number of pulses required to reach the desired position. With a torque of 0.4 Nm and an operating voltage of 12 V, the motor is suitable for light to medium loads in prototyping setups.
It is controlled by a stepper motor driver, which supplies the four connections with timed signal sequences to energize the two coil windings as needed. In addition to the 12 V motor supply, the driver requires a separate logic input, for example from a microcontroller board, to control the direction and step frequency.
Typical applications include XY plotters, where two motors position the axes; rotary components in measuring instruments or calibration devices; simple robotics projects with linear motion axes; and automated testing fixtures for everyday laboratory use. For rapid movement above 1000 steps per second, torque should be checked through load testing, as holding torque decreases at higher frequencies.
A compatible stepper motor driver, a power supply with at least 12 V and sufficient current capacity, and a microcontroller board with digital outputs are required. Mechanical brackets and couplings for connecting the motor to a load or shaft are not included.
Safety notice
The motor must not be connected directly to a household power outlet or power grid and is intended exclusively for prototyping, testing, and development purposes. Ensure the coils are assigned correctly according to the wiring diagram for the driver being used; incorrect wiring can cause the motor to malfunction or become damaged. If you are unsure about the operating voltage, stepper motor driver, or safety requirements, consult a qualified electrician before use.
