Product Description
The Hall sensor uses the magnetic field as a trigger and switches without contact, making it ideal wherever mechanical switches would wear out or contamination could compromise operation. The wide supply voltage range of 6 to 36 V makes the module flexible for use in systems with different power supplies, without requiring additional regulators.
The sensor responds to magnetic fields from approximately 20 to 30 millitesla. The open-collector output requires an external pull-up resistor and then actively pulls to ground when a magnet is within the detection range. This allows direct control of logic inputs or, with current limiting, relay and LED outputs.
Typical applications range from door contacts in security systems and detecting position changes during motion sequences to measuring the rotational speed of rotating shafts with an attached magnet. The sensor can also reliably detect states in automated material testers or drive control applications without wearing out its switching life.
Operation requires a pull-up resistor in addition to the supply voltage, typically between 1 and 10 kΩ connected to the positive supply. The detection distance depends on the magnetic field strength and orientation and is typically a few centimeters. The sensor functions only in the presence of an external magnetic field, which must either be present or attached to a component.
