Product Description
This step-down voltage converter reduces an applied DC voltage to a lower, continuously adjustable value using switching regulation. With an integrated LM2596S chip, the module operates at a switching frequency of 150 kHz, achieving high efficiency with minimal space requirements.
The desired output voltage is set using a potentiometer on the circuit board. It is important that the input voltage is at least 1.5 V above the target output, as the converter only steps voltage down. Increasing the voltage is not possible.
The inductor, electrolytic capacitors, and freewheeling diode are already fitted and soldered. For operation, simply connect the input and output wires to the four solder pads. At full load, the chip may become noticeably warm and may require additional cooling; integrated overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown protect the module against overload.
The module is suitable wherever different supply voltages need to be adjusted to uniform levels. Battery voltages can be stabilized just as effectively as solar or wind generator outputs, allowing you to power microcontroller boards, motor drivers, or analog electronics. The wide input voltage range of 3 V to 40 V and output current of up to 3 A cover typical development and prototyping projects.
Safety Notice
When operating with mains voltage, this module must not be connected directly to the household electrical circuit. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. A qualified electrician must be consulted when planning or carrying out modifications to the power supply, or if there is any uncertainty before commissioning.
