Product description
A digital power amplifier based on the Class D principle and featuring the IRS2092S IC delivers audio signals to the speaker at up to approximately 500 W. The component uses pulse-width modulation instead of a conventional linear analog amplifier; an internal switch modulates a high-frequency signal proportionally to the input voltage. This results in significantly lower heat losses, allowing the heatsink to be much smaller than would be necessary for comparable linear power.
The 48 V operating voltage (balanced, meaning positive and negative) requires a suitable external power supply. Anyone building this amplifier must procure a switching power supply with this output voltage separately. The outputs work with impedances between 4 and 8 ohms, which is typical for home audio speakers. On the input side, the module accepts both digital and analog signals, offering flexibility in the choice of signal source.
The amplifier is supplied as a circuit board without a housing. The attached heatsinks dissipate the generated heat; at full load, active ventilation or thermal planning is required, as passive cooling alone is insufficient under load. This affects use in enclosed spaces or housings, where heat dissipation must be planned accordingly.
Applications include active speaker systems, small PA systems, or audiophile home audio systems where compactness is required without a large linear amplifier. The amplifier can also serve as a basic module for custom audiophile projects. Assembly requires a regulated 48 V power supply, a suitable signal generator or audio preamplifier, and provisions for heat dissipation.
Safety information
This product is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits and is suitable exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. The high output power generates thermal loads that must be managed through cooling. Work on or near the electrical installation supplying power is reserved for qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
