Product Description
The accelerometer detects movement in all three spatial directions simultaneously. The module uses the ADXL335 sensor, whose piezoelectric measurement principle converts acceleration along the X, Y, and Z axes into proportional voltages. Three analog outputs provide continuous values that can be read via the ADC inputs of a microcontroller board or single-board computer.
With a measurement range of +/- 3 g, the sensor is suitable for detecting everyday movements, free falls, and light impacts. The resolution of approximately 3 mV per g enables sufficient differentiation at moderate accelerations. The sensor is not suitable for higher G-forces.
Applications range from motion detection in mobile devices and orientation detection in robots to vibration measurement on machines. A tilt angle can be calculated from the static accelerations along the axes, for example, to monitor the orientation of a model.
The operating voltage of 2.4 to 3.6 V requires a stable power supply in the 3.3 V range; direct connection to 5 V logic is not possible and would damage the IC. Evaluation requires a development board with ADC channels and a corresponding control routine. The sensor must be protected against electrostatic discharge and requires calibration to the zero point of each axis before use.
Safety Information
The module is sensitive to electrostatic discharge; anti-static precautions are required before handling. The product is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not suitable for use in safety-critical applications.
