Product description
An electrolytic capacitor with a capacitance of 470 microfarads and a voltage rating of 25 volts is a classic decoupling element in analog and digital circuits. The component stores energy and releases it to absorb voltage spikes and stabilize power supplies.
The dielectric properties of the chemically produced electrolyte enable high capacitance in a small space. The rated voltage limits the maximum permissible operating level to 25 volts. If this voltage is exceeded, the capacitor may be damaged, potentially causing the pressure relief valve to open. The component is polarized, so the positive and negative terminals must be installed correctly.
The capacitor is often connected directly to the power terminals of microcontroller boards, power supply modules, or analog circuits. Especially when buffering current surges from servo motors or sensor ICs, the capacitor prevents voltage drops that could cause malfunctions. It also stabilizes the output voltage in simple DC power supplies.
The component can be soldered directly onto circuit boards or used in breadboards. For operation at higher voltages or with larger capacitances, suitable components must be selected. Service life depends on the operating temperature and the applied voltage.
Safety information
Electrolytic capacitors must not be operated with reverse polarity. The component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. When working on power supply circuits, consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about the correct sizing.
