Product Description
The DHT11 is a combined temperature and humidity sensor that outputs a digital signal directly to microcontrollers. The module measures temperatures from 0 to 50 °C and humidity between 20 and 80%; outside these ranges, the sensor provides unreliable readings. Accuracy is approximately ±2 °C for temperature and ±5 % for relative humidity.
The sensor operates at 3.3 to 5.5 V and is therefore directly compatible with standard microcontroller boards. Data is output via a simple digital interface that requires only one data line in addition to power and ground; the required control can be implemented with just a few lines of code. The measurement interval is approximately two seconds; more frequent queries are not possible and unnecessarily extend the response time.
Typical applications include weather models, inventory management, and indoor climate monitoring. For example, a greenhouse control system could control heating or ventilation based on sensor readings. Anyone who needs to monitor long storage chains or set up a humidity alarm for storage rooms will find an affordable solution here.
After extended storage, measurement accuracy may deteriorate and require calibration using a known reference value. For temperature measurements outside the 0-to-50-°C range or humidity measurements below 20 or above 80%, a different sensor element is required; the same applies to accuracy requirements better than ±2 °C or ±5 %. In addition to the sensor, a power supply and a microcontroller or single-board computer are required to read and process the data.
Safety Information
The sensor is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. After extended storage, the readings should be checked against a calibrated reference device. Work on or immediately adjacent to electrical installations is reserved for qualified electricians; if there is any uncertainty about the power supply, consult a qualified electrician before operation.
