Product description
The sensor measures the concentration of carbon monoxide in ambient air using a chemical transducer element that reacts to gas poisoning of the sensing element. The measured values are transmitted to a microcontroller board via the I2C interface, allowing multiple sensors to be operated on a shared data bus and significantly reducing the number of required connection pins.
The sensor measures concentrations of up to 1000 ppm and operates at supply voltages from 3.3 to 5 V. No complex calibration before use is required, as an internal reference mechanism ensures long-term stability. With power consumption under 5 mA, it is suitable for practical applications and can also be used in battery-powered devices.
Typical applications include monitoring indoor spaces for carbon monoxide concentrations, such as workshops with combustion engines or heating systems. A measurement system for a basement area required only a single power supply, a controller, and this sensor connected via four wires. The sensor is also used in portable indoor air quality devices and automated ventilation controls.
Operation requires a microcontroller board or a common single-board computer system. The board must provide an I2C interface; with 5 V logic on the controller, a level shifter is required if the sensor is operated with 3.3 V logic levels. A separate power supply is required; the 3.3 or 5 V voltage regulation must be provided externally.
Safety information
The sensor is not approved for use in standard carbon monoxide alarms in accordance with EN 50291 and is not intended for safety-critical applications. The component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. When installing it in existing electrical installations or connecting it to household electrical systems, qualified electricians must be involved; if there is any uncertainty about the correct power supply or signal connection, a qualified electrician must be consulted before commissioning.
