Product Description
This infrared sensor measures distances between 3 and 100 centimeters without contact and is suitable for applications requiring continuous distance measurements. The principle is based on the propagation time of infrared radiation reflected by the object. The sensor outputs the measurement result as an analog voltage signal that can be connected directly to an analog input on a microcontroller board.
The potentiometer integrated into the board allows the sensitivity to be adjusted to different surfaces and lighting conditions without additional components. This makes it possible to reliably detect even difficult-to-measure objects or reflective surfaces. Power consumption is approximately 20 milliamperes, making the sensor practical for battery-powered systems as well.
Applications include distance control for automated guided vehicles, near-field obstacle detection in robots, automatic door openers with motion detection, and monitoring shelves and inventory in Industry 4.0 applications. The sensor is also suitable for measuring the fill level of containers, provided that there are no extreme lighting conditions.
The operating voltage and exact current consumption can be found in the manufacturer's specifications. The measuring range is limited to approximately three to 100 centimeters; measurements in direct sunlight outdoors may result in errors. Integration requires a suitable analog-to-digital converter module or a board with an ADC input.
