Product Description
These 5 mm through-hole LEDs are suitable for status indicators, signaling, and lighting effects in electronics projects. The set contains 100 pieces in five colors, allowing multiple signals in a circuit to be distinguished by color.
An LED lights up only when current flows in the correct direction. The longer lead (anode) is connected to positive, and the shorter lead (cathode) to negative. If the wire length has been shortened, a small flat section on the housing indicates the cathode side.
Since LEDs are designed for approximately 20 mA, a series resistor is required when connecting them to 5 V logic to limit the current. Without this resistor, excessive current will destroy the component. For use with breadboards, microcontrollers, or as simple indicator elements in hobby projects, one series resistor is therefore required per LED in addition to the LEDs; typical values range from 150 to 470 ohms, depending on the desired brightness and supply voltage.
Safety Information
LEDs are polarity-sensitive and may only be operated with the correct polarity. The product is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not intended for connection to household mains wiring.
