Product description
The step-up converter increases low DC voltages to higher voltage levels and is suitable wherever batteries or weak power sources need to supply consumers requiring a higher voltage. The switching regulator principle stores energy in an inductor and releases it in a controlled manner to stabilize the output voltage.
With an input voltage range of 2 to 24 V, a wide variety of power sources can be connected, from two batteries in series to regulated laboratory power supplies. The output voltage can be set to up to 28 V and continuously supplies up to 2 A, allowing multiple consumers to be powered. The protection circuits interrupt the power output in the event of a short circuit or overload, protecting downstream components.
Applications include powering 5 V logic from two AA batteries, controlling LED strips from a low battery voltage, or converting fluctuating solar input voltages to a constant 12 V for laboratory measurements. The fixed-frequency operating mode generates less noise than PWM-controlled systems and is therefore also suitable for sensitive measurement circuits.
The converter only requires a power source within the specified range and a load with a voltage tolerance of up to 28 V. The maximum output current of 2 A must be observed to prevent the protection functions from being triggered. For high-frequency digital signals in the immediate vicinity, a ferrite bead on the input lead is recommended.
Safety information
The converter is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not designed for installation in the household electrical system. When using input voltages close to the upper limit of 24 V, ensure adequate cooling. Work on electrical installations is reserved for qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
