Product description
A speed sensor with an infrared photoelectric barrier detects passing or rotating objects and outputs a digital signal. The module emits invisible light and evaluates the reflection when an obstacle interrupts or reflects the radiation. The choice between 3.3 V and 5 V operating voltage enables direct connection to both modern small computers and classic microcontroller boards without additional level shifting.
The sensor is suitable for measuring the rotational speed of wheels and motors, detecting material flow on conveyor belts, and detecting movement in robotics projects. One specific application example: mounted on a mobile robot, the sensor measures wheel rotations, enabling precise distance calculation and speed control. Another application is counting objects, for example when parts pass through a measuring station.
The detection range of approximately 20 cm is sufficient for most desktop and laboratory setups. Reliability may decrease at greater distances or under stronger ambient lighting. The digital output provides a clear logic signal that can be counted directly in an evaluation routine or used for control. In addition to the sensor itself, operation requires only a suitable power supply, and possibly mounting hardware and connection cables for the controller interface.
