Product description
The slide potentiometer is a linear slider control for analog voltage regulation. It has a resistance of 10 kOhm and is operated via a slider that can travel a distance of 20 mm. It is connected via three solder points or pins: supply, ground, and tap. This allows an analog voltage from 0 to the input voltage (maximum 12 V) to be taken from the center contact.
Because the potentiometer is designed with low resistance, it can be operated directly with microcontroller inputs without an amplifier circuit in between. The voltage at the wiper follows the slider travel linearly, allowing the physical value to be calculated easily. Slider wear is negligible with occasional operation, but the contacts may wear out if adjustments are made frequently per minute over extended periods.
The component is suitable for controllers in mobile robots, control panels for small experimental setups, volume controls in audio circuits, or manual control signals in prototypes. Such a potentiometer can also be used as position feedback for linear actuators if an accuracy of approximately plus or minus five percent is sufficient. The 20-mm travel limits its use to compact devices.
Operation requires a voltage source that provides the operating voltage. The output voltage is taken from the center terminal; an analog-to-digital converter in the microcontroller digitizes it. The arrangement of the three terminals is determined from the datasheet or by simply measuring them.

At operating voltages above 12 V, material breakdown must be expected; a suitable model must be selected for higher voltages.
