Product description
The real-time clock module with I2C interface provides the date and time with seconds-level accuracy. An integrated crystal oscillator keeps the time stable even when the external power supply fails, thanks to a backup battery that ensures at least ten years of operation.
Since the module communicates via I2C, multiple such modules or other sensors can be connected to the same bus without occupying additional connection pins. With operating voltages between 3.3 and 5 V, it works with common microcontroller boards and single-board computers. Level shifters are not required if the board also uses 5 V.
The module is used in automation systems that require time-controlled measurements or switching operations. A smart home project can use it to record events chronologically and evaluate them later. Data loggers use the module to provide measured values with reliable timestamps, while alarm systems can reliably schedule notifications over longer periods.
In addition to connecting it to the microcontroller board, an external power supply is required for operation. The backup battery may need to be activated or replaced before initial commissioning. The module requires appropriate driver routines or libraries in the programming software, which are generally available for common platforms.
Safety information
Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians. This module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not intended for integration into the household electrical circuit. If you are unsure about the power supply or circuit diagram, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
