Product description
The RFP602 is a force-sensitive resistor that translates force and pressure into a resistance value. Its internal resistance decreases proportionally to the applied load, making it a simple pressure sensor for prototypes and measurement exercises. Typical applications range from 0 to 10 N.
Its operation is based on an active element made of polymer material that changes its resistance under force. The sensor itself does not generate a signal; it only changes its ohmic value. Therefore, an external voltage source and an analog-to-digital converter are required to convert the measured values into digital form. A voltage divider circuit with a fixed resistor enables conversion into measurable voltage changes.
The sensor is suitable for projects that need to detect pressure or grip, such as simple force sensors in robotic hand prototypes or pressure switch implementations. It can also be used to monitor loads on surfaces, provided the force remains below 10 N. The thin polymer-film design is particularly advantageous, as it can be integrated into cushions, beneath floor coverings, or into gloves.
The RFP602 has no power supply of its own and is passive. A microcontroller board with an integrated ADC can read the sensor directly via an analog input. For the highest possible accuracy, calibration based on your specific load area is recommended, although the basic linearity is usable even without calibration. Dynamic measurements or high-frequency pressure fluctuations require fast ADC sampling.
Safety information
The sensor is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Overloading beyond 10 N or continuous loading reduces its service life and may impair its measurement characteristics. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if you are unsure, consult a qualified electrician before setup.
