Product description
A solid-state relay has no moving contacts; instead, it uses semiconductors to switch loads. This relay board provides two such channels and is controlled with 5 V signals from a microcontroller. Each channel can switch AC loads of up to 2 A.
The optical isolation galvanically separates the control circuit from the load side. This prevents interference from switching currents and protects sensitive control boards from feedback from the mains. In home automation, this helps avoid failures caused by EMC problems. Zero-crossing detection switches the semiconductors on only when the voltage crosses zero, allowing loads such as incandescent lamps to be switched smoothly and suppressing switching sparks.
Applications include control systems for heating, ventilation, and lighting in smart home projects where several consumers need to be switched separately. It also replaces large electromechanical relays in laboratory and test setups, saves space, and avoids wear caused by contact bounce. DIN rail mounting in distribution cabinets is suitable for installation, while screw fastening is sufficient for prototypes on the workbench.
The 5 V control makes the board directly compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and similar boards. For safe operation, the power supply for the electronics and the mains voltage for the load must be set up separately from each other. The loads themselves may only be wired by a qualified electrician.
