Product description
The solid-state relay module switches AC loads via a light-controlled semiconductor and is used to switch lamps, heating elements, or small motors on and off from a microcontroller. Unlike mechanical relays, the module has no moving contacts, but instead uses a phototriac for load switching. An optocoupler provides galvanic isolation between the control side and the load side, preventing interference with the logic circuit and enabling completely silent operation.
The control side is operated with 5 V DC and requires a digital output from the microcontroller. The convention is that signals below 2.5 V switch the load off, while signals from 3.3 V switch it on. Since the input circuit has no reverse-polarity protection, care must be taken to ensure the correct polarity when connecting it.
AC devices up to 240 V and 2 A can be connected to the load side. The module switches at the zero crossing, minimizing switching impulses. When switching off inductive loads such as motors or transformers, overvoltage occurs, so an external protective component is required in such cases.
The housing dissipates the heat generated by the semiconductor module and must therefore be adequately ventilated to prevent the module from overheating during operation. The included screw terminals are sufficient for connecting it, but a microcontroller with digital outputs and a 5 V logic interface is required.
