Product Description
A water level sensor operates according to the resistance principle and consists of a circuit board with parallel, exposed tracks. Some of these tracks are connected to the supply voltage, while the others are connected to the signal output. As long as no water is present, these tracks remain electrically isolated.
When water touches the sensor field, it connects adjacent conductive tracks and creates a variable resistance. The deeper the sensor is immersed in water, the more tracks are bridged, the lower the resistance becomes, and the higher the voltage measurable at output S rises. The signal amplification on the board processes this change. With a 5 V supply, a value between 0 and 1023 is generated, which the microcontroller's analog-to-digital converter reads.
The sensor is suitable for measuring fill levels in containers, detecting rain, detecting overflows, and monitoring for leaks. When a fixed threshold is set, the module also functions as a simple yes/no water detector.
Since the conductive tracks can corrode over time when continuously powered while wet, the power supply should only be switched on shortly before a measurement, for example via a digital output pin of the microcontroller. An analog input on the target board is required.

The sensor is designed only for detecting distilled or deionized water and does not work reliably with salt water or other conductive liquids. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes and is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
