Product description
A PS2 joystick module with an XH2.54 connector digitizes gamepads and other compatible input devices for processing by microcontroller boards. The module processes eight digital buttons and four analog axes simultaneously and outputs the captured values via the SPI protocol.
SPI communication at frequencies of up to 1 MHz enables fast, synchronous data transmission with low latency, which is particularly important for interactive applications such as robot control or gaming. The wide operating voltage range of 3.3 V to 5 V makes the module compatible with 8-bit systems and ARM-based boards alike.
Typical applications include controlling mobile robots, where two analog axes determine the motor speed and the buttons trigger additional functions such as gripper arms or sensor modes. The module is also suitable for arcade machines, game console emulators, or industrial control terminals when a gamepad is to serve as an input device.
Operation requires a stable power supply system that provides the desired operating voltage and performs appropriate level shifting depending on the board voltage. The XH2.54 connectors are not through-hole mounted but remain on the top side, so the board requires sufficient space in confined installation areas. The SPI bus requires at least three to four available connections on the target board.
Safety information
The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes, and is not suitable for installation in household power circuits. Observe the operating voltage limits to prevent damage caused by overvoltage. If anything is unclear, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
