This goes with it
Description
Product Overview
- Photoresistor with a nominal value of 10 kOhm, measures brightness through changes in resistance
- Resistance decreases in light and increases in darkness
- Measuring range from a few lux to approximately 10,000 lux
- Connection via two pins, directly to analog or digital inputs
- Small standard-size design, also suitable for tight circuit boards
Product Description
The photoresistor measures ambient brightness through a light-dependent change in resistance. In bright conditions, the resistance value decreases; in darkness, it increases. The two connection pins can be connected directly to analog or digital inputs on a microcontroller board, where the brightness value is read as a voltage drop.
The photoresistor requires a series resistor for operation, allowing the voltage to be measured at an analog input. The value of the series resistor depends on the measuring range and the operating voltage; typical series resistors range from 1 to 100 kOhm. The photoresistor itself has no polarity and does not wear out.
Applications include brightness threshold switches for LED lights, dusk sensors for outdoor lighting, and simple day-night detection systems. The photoresistor can also be used to control display brightness or as a light sensor in robotics projects.
An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) on the microcontroller is required to make the brightness value available digitally. Accuracy depends on the circuit design and the components used. For precise measurements, calibrated light sensors are the better choice.
Safety Information
The photoresistor does not contain any hazardous voltages. It is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Qualified electricians are required when working on or near electrical installations; if you are unsure about integrating it into permanent systems, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
