Product description
The NEMA17 stepper motor provides precise positioning in applications where neither sensors nor control loops are required. The motor rotates in defined steps of 1.8 degrees, making it easy to calculate the required number of pulses from the desired position. With a torque of 0.4 Nm and an operating voltage of 12 V, the device is suitable for light to medium loads in prototyping applications.
It is controlled via a stepper motor driver that supplies the four connections with timed signal sequences, thereby selectively energizing the two coil windings. In addition to the 12 V supply for the motor, the driver itself requires a separate logic input, for example from a microcontroller board, to control the direction and step frequency.
Typical applications include XY plotters, in which two motors position the axes, rotary components in measuring instruments or calibration devices, simple robotics projects with linear motion axes, and automated testing fixtures for laboratory use. For rapid movements of more than 1000 steps per second, the torque should be checked through load testing, as the holding force decreases at higher frequencies.
A suitable stepper motor driver, a power supply with at least 12 V and sufficient current capacity, and a microcontroller board with digital outputs are required. Mechanical mounts and couplings for connecting the motor to a load or axis are not included.
Safety information
The motor must not be connected directly to a household power outlet or power grid and is intended exclusively for prototyping, testing, and development purposes. Ensure that the coils are assigned correctly according to the wiring diagram of the driver being used; incorrect wiring can lead to motion failures or damage. If you are unsure about the operating voltage, stepper motor driver, or safety aspects, consult a qualified electrician before operation.
