Product description
The motor driver is an H-bridge for brushed DC motors. The VNH2SP30 chip comes from automotive electronics and is designed for high currents and harsh conditions. The direction of rotation is controlled via the INA and INB inputs, while speed can be controlled using PWM up to 20 kHz.
A key feature is current monitoring via the CS pin, which provides an analog signal proportional to the motor load. The EN pin reports faults if the chip shuts down due to overheating or other fault conditions occur. With adequate cooling, the module supports a continuous current of 14 A, with peak loads of up to 30 A possible for short periods. Without an additional heatsink, the current must be significantly lower, as the maximum case temperature is 150 °C.
This module is typically used in robots and vehicles with high drive currents, where monitoring current draw is also useful. The control connection is made via a 7-pin header, while the motor and power supply are connected to separate solder pads designed for thick cables. A DC motor, a power supply of up to 16 V, and a microcontroller or development board with a PWM output and digital inputs and outputs are required.
Safety notice
The motor driver is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. In the event of overheating or a short circuit, the chip and circuit board can become very hot; adequate heat dissipation is required for continuous operation. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by qualified electricians; if you are unsure about the power supply or sizing, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
