Product description
The geared motor combines a brushless or brushed motor with a gear train, integrated Hall sensors, and an incremental encoder. The encoder's two outputs detect not only the rotational speed but also the direction of rotation. This makes it ideal for applications where the direction of travel or movement needs to be controlled precisely.
The Hall sensors enable electronic commutation while also providing position information. The encoder with A and B outputs follows the standard for incremental rotary encoders; based on the phase shift between the two signals, the controller automatically detects whether the shaft is rotating forwards or backwards. This eliminates the need for separate direction sensors. The dual shaft allows wheels or other drive components to be attached in parallel, or measuring instruments to be coupled.
Geared motors of this type are used in robotic vehicles, driverless transport vehicles, and swarm robots, where two or more drives must be synchronized. They are also useful in model vehicles with autonomous navigation or in arms with joint motors. For projects requiring precise distance measurement or speed control, the encoder feedback provides the basis for control loops.
The motor requires a suitable operating voltage; microcontroller boards usually cannot provide this directly, but only weak control signals. A motor driver is therefore required to process the Hall and encoder signals and supply the motor with the necessary power. Operation without this additional driver IC is not possible.
Safety information
This motor is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. The operating voltage must not exceed the manufacturer's specifications; incorrect polarity will damage the Hall sensors. If you have questions about correct control and power supply, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
