Product Description
The pulse sensor operates according to the optical principle and detects heart rates through changes in light absorption in the bloodstream. An LED emits light into the tissue, while a phototransistor receives the reflected light and generates an analog voltage signal modulated by the heartbeats. The sensor connects directly to a microcontroller and requires the standard operating voltage of 5 V.
The analog output signal enables processing on inexpensive boards without special interface modules. Measurement quality depends on correct placement and stable lighting. Movement artifacts distort the measurement, so the sensor must be positioned steadily. Calibration is performed through software, eliminating the need for physical adjustments.
Typical projects include wearable fitness trackers, real-time pulse monitoring in development systems, and simple biofeedback applications. The sensor is also suitable for detecting stress levels through heart rate variability in educational projects.
Operation requires a microcontroller board with an analog input. Measurement works only on areas of the body with sufficient blood circulation and a suitable skin surface, such as a finger or earlobe. Measurement uncertainties may occur under very low or very high ambient lighting conditions.
