Product Description
A capacitive touch sensor detects metal contact or the approach of a hand without requiring a mechanical button to be pressed. The module uses a coplanar plate as the sensor and outputs the measured result both as an analog voltage value and via a digital switching contact.
The sensitivity can be adjusted using the built-in potentiometer to minimize false triggers. The integrated LED provides a visual indication of the trigger status. The two independent outputs allow analog and digital processing to operate in parallel.
Touch switches for lamps or music players are the classic application. The sensor is also suitable for integration into control panel prototypes in home automation, and is often used in educational projects for capacitive detection of metal surfaces. Detecting a hand near a hotplate or monitoring the fill level of a metal container are other specific scenarios.
The sensor operates on between 3.3 and 5 V, making it suitable for common microcontroller boards ranging from single-board computers to conventional development boards. The digital and analog outputs can be connected directly. Calibration is not required; the potentiometer is adjusted manually during test operation.
Safety Notice
The sensor is not intended for use as a mechanical replacement for safety switches. The module is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be performed by qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
