Product Description

The light sensor on this circuit board uses a photoresistor whose electrical resistance changes depending on the incident light intensity. The circuit converts this resistance change into a measurable voltage, which is available at an analog output. This allows brightness values to be read directly without having to calculate a voltage divider.

A comparator is installed on the circuit board in parallel with the analog output. It compares the measured brightness with a set threshold value. When the measurement signal exceeds or falls below this limit, an output switches state, for example to activate an LED or alert a microcontroller. This digital function operates independently of the analog value and requires no further processing.

The sensor is useful wherever brightness and darkness need to be distinguished. Twilight or motion detectors can use it, as can light-controlled systems in models or art installations. Anyone who wants to collect measurement data can use the analog output; anyone interested only in a switching action can use the digital output. The measurement range covers normal indoor lighting and daylight, but does not extend to extreme darkness or flash brightness.

The sensor requires a 5 V operating voltage, supplied via the connector. The analog output provides voltages from 0 to approximately 5 V, depending on the incident light, and a standard analog input on a microcontroller board can process this value directly. The digital output also provides 5 V logic and can be connected directly to digital inputs. A level shifter is required for boards with different voltage levels, such as 3.3 V.
