Product Description
An I2C adapter for LCD displays saves connection wires and simplifies the circuit. Instead of six data lines plus two power lines, the module uses only four contacts, two of them for data and ground of the I2C bus. This allows many modules to be connected in parallel to a bus without overloading the controller's pins.
The module is soldered or plugged between the LCD display and the microcontroller board. The I2C address is usually fixed; some variants allow adjustment via jumpers or resistors. The built-in potentiometer mechanically adjusts the contrast without requiring commands from the controller.
In data logger setups, a display shows local readings while the controller stores the data; the I2C adapter reduces wiring in confined enclosures. The same applies to control tasks in which multiple displays show different system states, such as voltage, temperature, and operating times in a laboratory device. Menu systems can also be arranged more clearly because fewer connection wires run between the display and the circuit board.
The module requires a compatible Arduino library or driver functions in the development environment. The I2C bus should be terminated with 4.7-kΩ pull-up resistors to the supply voltage if the controller's connection pins do not already include them. Power for the display is supplied via the module itself, so no separate power supply is required.
