Product description
The color sensor detects color values using four photodiode arrays that respond separately to red, green, and blue wavelengths of light. An additional clear array enables brightness measurement. Light intensity is output as a frequency on the digital output, with each color represented by a specific frequency ratio.
The integrated LED continuously illuminates the area being measured, enabling consistent measurements independent of ambient light. The operating voltage of 2.7 to 5.5 V makes the sensor compatible with various microcontroller boards, from battery-powered devices to systems with 5 V logic. No calibration is required, as the frequency output is directly proportional to the detected color intensity.
The module can be used in color-sorting systems, automatic product classification in simple manufacturing processes, or robotics projects that respond to color markings. The sensor is also useful in light-measurement applications, such as detecting brightness levels under changing lighting conditions. Its compact design allows it to be installed in small devices.
Operation requires a microcontroller with a digital input and the ability to measure frequency. The typical measurement distance is a few centimeters, so the module is limited to short-range use. Programming uses a standard development environment and requires timing-sensitive code.
