Product Description
The GPIO Shield expands MEGA2560-R3 boards with headers on a plated-through-hole PCB. Instead of soldering individual microcontroller pins directly or working with jumper wires, all digital and analog inputs and outputs can be connected to standard pin headers or female headers via organized pin headers.
The PCB breaks out all available MEGA2560 R3 pins on one level and groups them clearly: power supply, digital outputs, analog inputs, and special functions such as PWM, UART, or SPI. The Shield draws its operating voltage directly from the host board, so a separate power supply is not required. The pin arrangement makes it easy to quickly determine which pins are already occupied during prototyping.
Applications range from circuit setups with sensors and actuators to connecting displays and real-time clock modules, as well as more complex systems with multiple I2C or SPI devices. In everyday project work, the Shield also allows several people to work on different parts of a system without blocking each other's pins.
A MEGA2560-R3 board or a compatible clone with an identical connector configuration is required. Depending on requirements, pin headers, female headers, or DIN rails for mounting must be obtained separately. The Shield itself only provides the wiring and organization of the pins; custom circuitry with resistors, capacitors, or protection diodes remains necessary depending on the specific application.
