What is a PIR sensor?
A passive infrared sensor is an electronic sensor that measures infrared light emitted by objects in its field of view. They are most commonly used in PIR-based motion detectors. PIR sensors are frequently used in security alarms and automatic lighting applications.
How does the PIR sensor work?
The PIR sensor has 2 slots, which are made of sensitive material. When the sensor is inactive, both slots detect the same amount of infrared radiation. Ambient radiation is emitted from outside, walls, rooms, etc. When a human body or animal passes by, it is detected by the first slot of the PIR sensor. This results in a positive differential change between the two halves. However, when the body leaves the detection area, the sensor produces a negative differential change between the two halves.
Simple and intuitive
The Grove - Mini PIR Motion Sensor works with the same library as the Grove - PIR Motion Sensor.
