Product description
The gesture sensor detects hand movements without contact using infrared light and evaluates them on the chip. This allows gestures to be used directly as control signals without requiring touch or additional processing. The sensor detects nine defined movement patterns: vertical and horizontal movements, approach and retreat, rotational movements in both directions, and pointing with one finger.
The I2C interface connects the sensor to microcontroller boards. Multiple modules can share the same bus, saving connection pins. The 3.3 V operating voltage requires a level shifter if the main board uses 5 V logic. The detection range extends up to 20 cm, which is sufficient for controls within arm's reach but not for greater distances.
Applications include contactless controls such as menu navigation on displays, gesture control for robotic grippers, and interactive installations. A light sensor also adjusts to ambient brightness, which should be taken into account when using the sensor under artificial lighting. The sensor only requires the I2C lines, power supply, and ground; no calibration is needed.
Safety information
The sensor is not intended for installation in household electrical circuits and may only be used for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be carried out by a qualified electrician; if you are unsure about commissioning, consult a qualified electrician before switching it on.
