Product description
The expansion module provides a traffic light intersection with four signal systems for simulating and programming traffic control scenarios. The board is plugged directly onto a MEGA 2560 R3 and uses its digital outputs for the twelve LEDs. Four separate traffic lights can be controlled independently, each with red, yellow, and green lights. The individual colors can be switched via separate pins, allowing freely programmable switching sequences.
The module completely eliminates the time required for wiring, as all conductive traces are already routed on the board and the LED resistors are pre-soldered. The pin headers for plugging it in are also pre-installed. The only requirement is a suitable microcontroller board with enough digital outputs; four traffic lights with three colors each require at least twelve pins, and the MEGA 2560 R3 provides plenty. No additional external power supply is required, as the board's 5 V logic supplies the LEDs.
Practical scenarios are immediately possible: classic traffic simulation with time-controlled switching sequences, responding to buttons as pedestrian crossing requests, combining the module with motion detectors for vehicle-independent traffic light control, or implementing traffic rules in program logic. Learning multiplexing is also possible; for example, if only four pins are available for twelve LEDs, the traffic lights can be programmed to blink alternately.
The module requires a MEGA 2560 R3 or a compatible board with the same pin-header arrangement. The Arduino IDE development environment is available free of charge. Example sketches are typically included with the product. The only additional purchase required is the microcontroller board itself, if it is not already available.
Safety notice
This module is not intended for use in household electrical circuits and may only be used for prototyping, testing, and development purposes. Work on or in the immediate vicinity of electrical installations is reserved for qualified electricians; if you are unsure, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
