Product description
The FM tuner module with the TEA5767 chip is a complete radio receiver for development and prototype projects. The chip already handles all tuning and filtering logic, so only I2C communication with the microcontroller is required to select the frequency and control reception. This saves considerable space and development effort compared with developing a solution from scratch.
The module operates in the standard FM band from 76 to 108 MHz. The firmware must therefore configure the appropriate frequency range for different geographical regions. The I2C connection allows multiple tuner modules to be connected in parallel to the same bus when different frequencies need to be received simultaneously. The amplified stereo audio signal is available directly at the audio outputs and can be fed directly into a headphone output or a small amplifier stage.
The flexible operating voltage of 2.7 to 5.5 volts makes the module compatible with the 3.3-V logic of modern single-board computers as well as classic 5-V boards, eliminating the need for a level shifter. Typical applications include portable FM radios, weather stations with radio functionality, laboratory instruments for signal tracking, or sound demonstration projects in education. An external antenna is required in all cases to optimize reception; signal strength depends largely on antenna quality.
The module is supplied without a power supply, but requires only a few milliamps during operation. A suitable headphone amplifier or a line-in input is available for connecting the audio signal; a separate audio amplifier may be required if loud playback through a speaker is needed. The I2C bus requires pull-up resistors if the microcontroller board does not already have them onboard.
Safety information
Operation is limited to prototyping, testing, and development and is not intended for installation in consumer devices or household electrical circuits. Avoid incorrect wiring; check the correct operating voltage before connecting the module to the circuit. Work on electrical installations or in the vicinity of power sources is reserved for qualified electricians; if in doubt, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
