Description

Product Overview

  • Electrolytic capacitor with 220 microfarads capacitance and 10 volts rated voltage
  • Radial leads for mounting on circuit boards
  • Noise filtering and voltage stabilization in power supplies
  • Energy storage in flash and pulse applications
  • Compact design for tight installation spaces

Product Description

This electrolytic capacitor is used to buffer and smooth voltages in power supplies and to decouple loads from the power source. With a capacitance of 220 microfarads and a rated voltage of 10 volts, this component is suitable for low-voltage applications, such as microcontroller boards or analog circuits with operating voltages up to 10 volts.

The capacitor stores electrical energy and releases it when the voltage drops, smoothing supply spikes and buffering dips. The radial leads allow direct mounting on circuit boards without modifications. If the applied voltage exceeds 10 volts, there is a significant risk of damage to the component; the polarity of the connections must be observed, as reversing the polarity will cause the capacitor to fail.

Example applications include output filters for switching power supplies to provide stable 5-volt or 3.3-volt supplies, decoupling capacitors next to IC power inputs to reduce interference noise, storage capacitors for LED drivers with short current pulses, and flash capacitors in digital flash circuits. In camera flash trigger circuits, such a capacitor is charged and quickly discharged when needed.

Safe use requires precise knowledge of the actual voltage applied and correct installation. The applied voltage must not exceed 10 volts continuously. No separate check is needed for power supplies with a voltage range below 10 volts; however, at voltages close to the rated value or if in doubt, compare with the datasheet before designing the circuit.

Safety Notice

Correct polarity must be observed when soldering; a charged capacitor can discharge if its terminals are shorted and may heat up in the process. This component is intended exclusively for building prototypes and for testing and development purposes. Work on or near electrical installations must be performed by qualified electricians; for voltages above 30 volts DC or 42 volts AC, consult a qualified electrician before commissioning.
