Product description

The real-time module is a digital clock IC with a backup battery for applications where time data must be retained over extended periods without power. The DS1307 chip communicates via the I2C bus, requiring only two connection pins for data communication. This allows multiple sensors and modules to be connected to a microcontroller simultaneously without occupying additional digital inputs.

The module stores the time, date, and day of the week with an accuracy of approximately one minute per month. The integrated battery bridges power outages, so the time does not need to be reset when the external power supply is interrupted. When starting up, the microcontroller reads the current time from the module. The two alarm inputs can be programmed for time-controlled operations, such as switching devices at defined times.

Typical applications include data loggers that work with timestamps, weather stations that associate readings with a time, or simply devices that need to know the current time for operation. The module is also suitable as a component for smart timers or for documenting event times in industrial processes.

The module operates directly on 5 V boards; boards with 3.3 V logic require a level shifter for the two signal lines.
